            Nursing theory is critical to advanced nursing practice since it reinforces clinical judgment, professional role development, and holistic care. The Theory of Human Caring proposed by Watson is a modern nursing theory that is applied in an advanced practice and focuses on the ethical and relational aspects of nursing. The theory is based on carative factors, later on called caritas processes, as explained by Butts (2021), and the processes are centered around intentional caring, authentic presence, and respect for human dignity. These principles support the nursing service in healing beyond the practice of task roles and offer the conceptual basis of advanced practice roles.
The Theory of Human Caring, as developed by Watson, is specifically applicable to the nurse practitioner (NP) profession since advanced practice nurses combine complex clinical decision-making with patient-centered care. According to Butts (2021), advanced nursing roles demand that they have competencies that include ethical practice, therapeutic communication, and professional autonomy, which are in line with caring science. Focusing on the significance of nurse-patient relationships, the theory can be applied to form a professional identity and to enhance trust that is necessary to establish effective diagnosis, treatment adherence, and continuity of care in advanced practice environments.
            The growing prevalence of chronic illness with patient disengagement and emotional distress is a major healthcare challenge facing nurse practitioners. According to Gunawan et al. (2022), relational care has a tendency to be undermined by efficiency and results, which are prioritized in healthcare settings. Patients with chronic illnesses like diabetes or cardiovascular disease can be prone to burnout, loss of motivation, and self-management, and this poses a challenge to advanced nursing practice and health care systems.
            The Theory of Human Caring by Watson can help resolve this issue by providing the means through which the nurse practitioners are directed to form caring-healing relationships purposely. Watson and Woodward (2020) define caring as a moral commitment that combines empathy, presence, and shared decisions. By targeting patients to the fullest extent and caring about them, nurse practitioners can assist in addressing the emotional and psychosocial needs of the patients and raise adherence and health outcomes, which validates caring as a core of advanced nursing practice.
