1. Discuss the impact this issue has on society. You may want to discuss it in terms of financial cost, costs to individuals/families, cost to businesses, or impact on healthcare and healthcare professionals (these are suggestions). 2. Explain your purpose in writing your paper (other than it was an assignment). Suggestions: discuss alternative pain management strategies; improve nurses’ knowledge related to opioid misuse, decrease stigma related to impaired providers, etc. Make sure you include any related or relevant facts (e.g. one in five healthcare workers have a substance use disorder, the United States uses the majority of opioids produced worldwide, more people die from opioid overdoses than car accidents in the United States, etc.).
