What is a Scholarship Essay?
A scholarship essay is a personal statement written by a student to apply for a scholarship. It is meant to convince the scholarship committee why the applicant deserves financial support. Unlike regular school essays, a scholarship essay focuses on the applicant’s achievements, goals, challenges, and motivation.
It usually answers questions like:
- Why do you need this scholarship?
- What are your educational and career goals?
- What makes you a strong candidate?

Title: Building My Future Through Education
Ever since I was a child, I have dreamed of becoming a doctor to help people in my community who cannot afford proper medical care. Growing up in a small village where access to healthcare is limited, I witnessed many lives lost due to preventable illnesses. This experience shaped my passion for medicine and my desire to make a difference.
Currently, I am in my final year of high school, and I have been accepted into the University of Nairobi to pursue a degree in Medicine. However, my family is unable to afford the full cost of tuition, books, and living expenses. My father is a casual laborer, and my mother is a small-scale farmer. They do their best, but it is not enough to support my education at the university level.
This scholarship would ease the financial burden on my family and allow me to focus fully on my studies. It would also bring me one step closer to achieving my dream of becoming a doctor.
