Engineering and Construction Gear Ratios

Engineering and Construction Gear Ratios

Project description
Format of report:
* Introduction
* Equipment and Materials
* Methods & results
* Discussion of results
* Conclusion
* References

The report should be between 1000 and 1500 words.
Introduction:

Providing background information on gears in general and summarise what the rest of the report will discuss. Also talk about torque.

Equipment and Materials:
We have used in the experiment a Motor and Great kit to create a lifting device. This was created from various pieces such as ( battery, circuit, 6 gears, 2 sprockets )you should describe them all. Also descibe how the circuit was made?

Methods and Results:

Explain how the measurements was made and show the results.

These are the results of how much grams can the gears take with big and small sprocket:
BIG SPROCKET ….. SMALL SPROCKET

ONE GEAR ….(25g)…………(50g)…

TWO GEARS ….(100g)…………(200)…

THREE GEARS …(400g)…………(800g)…

FOUR GEARS ..(1600g)………..(3200g)…

FIVE GEARS ..(6400g)………..(12800)…

SIX GEARS ..(25600g)……….(51200)…

Discussion of Results:

Define gear ratio and torque and explain how the experiment should behave in theory, taking into account how the motor perfoms when loaded.

What effect did gear ratio have on the ability of the device to lift weights?

How did the size sprocket affect this? Why?

The experiment used all possibles gear ratios of 4:1 to 4096:
1- Was the effect consistent? Explain any differences. What range of gear ratios gave reliable results?

Connect this to the speed & torque at the motor using DC motor characteristic in the reference below and the datasheet information on the motor used in the kit.

Discuss any problems with the equipment that may have produced inconsistent results.
Conclusion:

Your report has discussed theory, measurements and observations for gear ratios; summarise the work in the conclusion. You should repeat some of the important theoretical points and how strongly these were supported in the experiments.

Refrences:
Harvard style.
